the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry® (AACD) is dedicated to
advancing excellence in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry and
encouraging the highest standards of ethical conduct and responsible
patient care.
The AACD fulfills its mission by: offering superior educational
opportunities; promoting and supporting a respected Accreditation
credential; serving as a user-friendly and inviting forum for the
creative exchange of knowledge and ideas; and providing accurate and
useful information to the public and the profession.
Dedicated to Cosmetic Dentistry
In December of 1984, 60 dentists answered the call of AACD founder, Dr.
Jack Kammer and co-founder Dr. Jeff Morley. This visionary group met in
Las Vegas to create an organization devoted to the art and science of
cosmetic dentistry. From this small gathering of dedicated individuals,
the AACD has matured into the world's largest organization for cosmetic
dental professionals. Over the years, hundreds of professionals have
selflessly served the Academy as officers, board members and on.
The AACD continues to grow and now includes over 7600 practitioners,
educators, researchers and laboratory technicians from 60 countries
worldwide. This global perspective allows AACD members to gather
information from the international field of cosmetic dentistry.
With the formation of the Accreditation and Fellowship Programs, the
AACD began offering the most stringent and respected postgraduate
certification in cosmetic dentistry to both dentists and laboratory
technicians. Accreditation, The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, and
AACD's cutting-edge Annual Scientific Session have solidified the
Academy's position as the leading cosmetic dental organization in the
world. AACD members are recognized as professionals dedicated to
constant improvement of their skills and knowledge, and to making the
life-changing benefits of cosmetic dentistry available to more people
every year.
Excellence Through Education
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's fundamental principle is to
promote education. The AACD is the only organization of its kind to
offer a postgraduate certificate by application, presentation and
review. It normally takes two to three years to complete all the
requirements, but the rewards are well worth the effort. All members are
encouraged to pursue Accreditation.
Following Accreditation, the highest level of distinction offered by the
AACD is Fellowship. An elite group of Accredited Members pursue
Fellowship each year which further proves a member's dedication to the
art and science of cosmetic dentistry.
One of the principle efforts of the AACD is the education, promotion and
acceptance of cosmetic dentistry practices by the general public. The
AACD has launched an international public relations effort to raise the
public's perception and understanding of cosmetic dentistry.
The Academy holds annual Scientific Sessions throughout North America.
Previous sites include: Vancouver, Puerto Rico, San Diego, Orlando,
Boston, and Hawaii. The focus of the annual conference is to allow
practitioners to exchange new ideas and receive meaningful, contemporary
information on the latest in clinical procedures, cosmetic practice
development, and self-enrichment. In addition, dentists may earn AGD
continuing education credits, as well as credit towards achieving
Accredited status in the Academy.
